Angels on the Move Programs
Angels on the Move Scholarship
Angels on the Move historically has held an annual holiday gift campaign. Toys, clothes and necessities are provided to children in the community. Angels on the Move organizes local children and teens each year who work together to gather gifts which are then donated to children in need. The holidays are often difficult for families in need and can be especially difficult for the children of those families. Angels on the Move provides a spot of sunshine and happiness during the holidays.
At Angels on the Move, we take care in providing programs which support kids within the community. Our Programs include:
Angels on the Move sponsors an annual scholarship for the Upward Bound Program at Long Beach City College. The Upward Bound Program is designed to assist teens by providing services and tools in order to assist teens with their desire to go to college. Many of the program participants are first generation college bound students. The annual scholarship is based on academic achievement as well as extracurricular activities. The Angels on the Move Scholarship Program is now in its fifth year and continues to take a place in helping Upward Bound teens realize their dream of attending college. It is through knowledge that today’s youth has the power to change the future.
Angels on the Move believes knowledge is power and reading is a key to obtaining and utilizing knowledge to improve one’s life. Angels for Literacy is a program which was developed by President Madison Madrid in order to provide books to kids in the community who might not otherwise be able to purchase a book. In addition, school supplies have been provided to children as they start the school year. Many statistics support the fact that early reading is one of the reasons why children are successful in school. The world fact book published by the CIA states the US literacy rate is 99%. This infers that about 3 million people (the size of some countries) in the United States cannot read or write. The term literate has been debated because it is currently defined as about a 5th grade level. Some studies have shown reading enhances learning and identifying poor readers at an early age can be a pivotal point in setting a solid path to learning through an individual’s life. Angels for Literacy is dedicated to collecting and delivering books to kids in the community to spur a love of reading at all ages.
